On Israel, Palestine and this map

GeoLearn has no entry for Israel. The land between the river and the sea is mapped here as Palestine, and it will stay that way. That is a deliberate choice by the person who built this site, and it is a political one.

The first reason is the conduct of the Israeli government: the killing, starvation and mass displacement of Palestinians in Gaza, and the decades of dispossession, settlement and state violence that came before it. I regard that as genocide and as state terrorism, and I am not willing to hand it a flag and a study card on something I made.

The second is that the name is older than the argument. This land has been called Palestine for the greater part of two thousand years — in Roman, Ottoman and Mandate usage alike — and the people living on it have been Palestinians throughout.
